Sadness with humour or vice versa

Jamel Debbouze: portrait

“Mission Cleopatra”, “Angel A” and other films; in the first movie, he was notable even playing with Christian Clavier and Gérard Depardieu; lots of dialogs, jokes. In the second movie I’ve mentioned (which was categorized as “drama”), he was playing the main role: a typical loser and liar, saved by the Angel.

Still the style of playing was gluing me to the TV; the fact of losing right his arm in 1990 because of the accident with the train didn’t push him down, and in 2002 he has become the best paid actor in France. One of the most famous stand-uppers in France, please welcome – Jamel Debbouze.

Who’s got interested in this actor: his biography (in French, wasn’t bothered of translating it :P ), some interesting facts (from wikipedia), and his filmography ( from imdb).

New Web Browser: Flock

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

Surfing the del.icio.us links for this night I found a nice link to a new web browser, based on Mozilla technologies.

Works nicely, the design of the browser is quiet bright, I’d say some kind of mixture of Safari (the indication of tabs, search bar) and Opera (the footer of the browser reminded the left pop-up snippet). About the resources it takes and the logical way of interaction (including hotkeys etc.) the developers left the “Mozilla Technologies” without changes.

The idea of combining the blog writing (to WP, blogspot etc), photo uploading through the footer snippet (flickr, photobucket etc uploaders), also some of the famous extensions of Firefox were included in the basics of Flock.

Anyway, enjoy using it, IMHO, really nice browser.

French Exam

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

Today, I mean yesterday I’ve taken an exam in French with my teacher to check the level to what I’ve got for the last two years of studying this language.

15.5 / 25, which is not bad at all, going more detailed in the exam, the worst part for me was writing, I wasn’t practicing for some time, and the exam was spontaneous, what actually helped me to see the really level.

15.5 is not 25 so I know where to aim, hopefully I’ll make it until spring 07 in order to take some official exams for the French certificates.

Few romantic nights with Apache

Sunday, June 25th, 2006

That was one of the occasions, when the abbreviator “RTFM” didn’t work.

After reading a lot of articles about Apache installation and the “difficulties” of integration .Nix server of Windows OS, I’ve decided to check what is so special about it.

Heh, that was quiet fun; installing Apache 2.2 – working properly. Installing PHP 5.1.4 – again, everything is working.

Combining PHP as Apache Module – nothing. Okay, going back to the manuals: hm, everything was made in its order. Alright, installing PHP as CGI, again according to the manual – nothing! Mmmm, “I’m loving it”.

It took me too long to integrate them, but I wasn’t working properly; the solution was found in xampp package. Well, even though MySQL is quiet old, but everything is working, and it’s the main thing.

Monday is coming, so I’ll start doing something useful during the week for sure!

Sting Discography

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006

After the Sting concert I’ve decided to review (or maybe re-listen?!) the albums he’s released during his performance in The Police group and solo. The songs didn’t change in quality aspects, if I can say that. The albums of 80s still sound very (very!) good; couldn’t choose the best one, this is the main problem when the signer produces the music at the same level.

Or maybe, his work has been already moved to the “classics” section of world music?

Anime:”Ergo Proxy”

Friday, June 16th, 2006

Everyone has its own strange habits: this habit started two years ago, when surfing the net I found the ooold anime “Ghost in the Shell” and the critics about it; so I decided to download it and check what it’s all about.

Even though the movie (anime) was 1995, the animation was very good, for many people “Ghost in the Shell” became the start point in discovering the anime, cuz this movie was mainly dedicated for the west more then for the Japan with its cyberpunk style. But the latest anime I found, “Ergo Proxy” shocked my little bit: good idea, and perfect implementation.

First time I saw a nice design in animation; comparing with “Appleseed” movie the combination of 3d graphics and typical Japanese anime style is gorgeous: the story line is kept in best traditions of cyberpunk and Sci-Fi. The only disadvantage: I just don’t like series and give more attention to the movies, but in this case it’d be hard to show the whole story in 1-2 hours movie.

Here’s an official album with soundtracks from “Ergo Proxy” official web-site, strongly advised to check it out! :)
