Get Virtualized

30 Oct

Secondlife Snapshot
Social Networks & Web 2.0 topics were slowly moved to the background as Secondlife.com entered the Web.

The fact of creating a company becomes simpler, before that, you’ve needed just some web space to operate the services. Now you don’t need anything except 20 Mb client to be able to enter your Second Life .
Great surface for product placement, advertising, marketing and all other ways to earn money used in the real world. I won’t wonder if this project will get some awards as the best project of 2006/2007.

Apologize, France!

26 Oct

A short summary of the actual immigration problem in France, which was brought up by the latest movie “Indegenes” by Rachid Bouchaber, with Jamel Debbouze, Samy Naceri. The movie shows how colony troops were fighting for France during WWII.But the situation got into a complete nonsense. The summary is represented as a dialogue.

Colonies: It’s all your fault, if you hadn’t colonized our country, we could have reached higher social and economic power then you!
France: [wordless, silent astonishment]
Colonies: We had such a huge potential in comparison with our neighbors, but you’ve ruined it all!
France: [feels herself ashamed]
Colonies: But there is a solution…You can give our people the ability of studying in your universities for free, simplify the residency receipt, pay retirement fees for the ones who were battling on your side during WWII, and we’ll forget about all historical injustices we had to go through being your colonies.
France:[malicious smile, takes her word in the conversation]
Actually, we’ve promised to do it, and since that time we keep our promises, your people study in our country, and they have same rights as our inhabitants. It’s not our fault that some of them prefer easy-money and to live on the RMI payments then working hard; just come over, integrate in our society and feel yourself home!
Colonies: [started tossing trying to find other arguments]
…You’ve destroyed everything we were creating through the centuries of our history, you’ve brought your useless schools and churches you called “culture”. We could have invent our own…schools and churches…
France: [sighing all-in]
Okay, you’re right – it’s our fault, we shouldn’t have meddle in our live. We take our responsibility.
Colonies: And don’t forget about giving some extra to our people!..
France: Okay-Okay, F-I-N-E!

This is how you should come to an agreement with powerful countries! ;)

Downtime

Unfortunately, Jujav4ik blog was off-line for few days. There was some kind of problem with Apache server which was solved today. So, finally, I’ve got back to usual blog-working schedule.

From the bottom to the top

23 Oct

From the latest news, NBC is going to reduce 700 jobs by the end of this year. As it was mentioned many times in the Internet: TV medium loses its positions on the market due to Internet development: like it or not, but no one can deny blogosphere as a media source nowadays, it’s more flexible, more open, and easy to join, and it has more information to look for then TV & Radio. By mentioning Vblogs, and Podcasts, you can see, that the “classical media” sources will have tough times in few years.

The Cheap Revolution will not — cannot — come from the top down. It will come from the bottom up. It will come from you. You want to start a media property? Blog. You want to start a radio show? Podcast. You want to start a TV show? Vlog. You want to ad an adman? Build a Gawker Media “blogvertorial” (sorry about that).

Unfortunately the media “giants” didn’t find a good solution for the problem except cutting down the budget, while from another side of society:

The problem with old guys on newspapers trying to attract young people is that they pander and insult the people they so desperately want to attract. They create lite products because they think the young have no attention span when, far more likely, the young have no patience for the overlong blatherings of the old.

A new generation like my coevals or younger, will form the media by accepting diversity of the sources and a big potential of self-education:

The new students seemed to be studying more in groups in the library. They huddled around their laptops teaching each other. They watched videotaped lectures of other professors when they couldn’t understand their teacher’s lessons.

The newspapers and TV still didn’t get it – we don’t need them as the main source of information anymore, they are used for comparison sake in order to state our own understanding of the things.

This is how the morning started

23 Oct

Hangover? Nope! Car accident. The group mate wasn’t focused on the road, and 800 meters before the institute we got into the accident. A small pick up truck didn’t even have a scratch, but the friend’s car was crushed from the side.

Good lesson for keeping distance in Cyprus, but unfortunately quite expensive one. And the day just started!..

Read this post – otherwise – I be executed!

Unfortunately, Cyprus was avoided by showing the premier of the most expected movie by Sacha Baron CohenBorat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.

According to Borat blog in MySpace, you’ll be able to find out the date of the movie premier and if your country is being added to the list.

Fitzpatrick in Russia. WTF?

23 Oct

While we all were relaxing after a hard working week, Brad Fitzpatrick went to Moscow with the director of Six Apart company, where they sold whole Russian sector of Livejournal user database to a Russian company called Sup, which will handle all Cyrillic based LiveJournals (it includes also the support of Bolgaria and Kazakhstan).

According to official press release of the community LJ Business: “No journals are being transferred“, – because the main part of Russian LJ-users were cared about the privacy policy if the data will be transferred to Russian servers. By the inertia, the buzz about these unsupported info made some LJ-users to quit using LJ blogs.

I still can’t get the idea of this hysteria: one social networking company sold a piece of its market to another social networking company. That’s it! Okay, the Abuse Team, the support of Russian sector will be provided by Sup. Or maybe, I’ve missed something?
