An alarm clock.

29 Mar

Too much of music! No matter how many alarm clocks I’ve tried before, the best one, which works 100% accurately is somebody who comes at the music school right opposite my window, around 6 pm and starts practising piano playing. It’s been two months this person learning “The moonlight sonata” of Beethoven, and it’s been a week he can’t play the same part well. I don’t mind about studying process, but to stop playing everytime you make a mistake, and going from the beginning each time, can wake up even me!

Special regards to the teacher, who starts playing Keith Jarrett and some other classic jazz stuff after 8 pm sometimes.

CD’s, or Oslo Night sets loss!

26 Mar

Ronin Movie: Jean Reno photo5 years ago, or maybe six, I’ve been a big fan of djmixes2k portal, only because one show, which later on moved to Di.fm. It’s name is Oslo Nights. DJ’s from Norway, Sweden and the rest of North European countries used to spin their mixes up there.

It was in 2002 or in 2003, when Dj Elusive realised one of his first sets, and there was a tune from old (but gold!) movie “Ronin“, which plays during the story of 47 samurai’s who have become ronins. The original theme is gorgeous (Track #1), but what I’m looking for is its house remix.

The music those guys realised back in days, was the first step into progressive house: unbelievably melodic, at the same time it kept the rhythm and vibe of typical club electronic music: Dj Elusive, Likwit, Dj Stigma, Chloe Harris etc.

Surfing all other the Web, I could find only the history of Oslo Nights Shows, and supposedly, the track I’m looking for is:

Elusive (Dedicated to Morten RIP)

01 – Icehouse – Don’t Believe Anymore (Ivan Gough & Colin Snape remix)
02 – Jiva – Strange Dimensions (Original)
03 – Duran & Aytek – Elysium
04 – R. Carbonero feat Vicky – To Ermeticon (Lost Your God)
05 – Mansun – Wide Open Space
06 – Sigur Ros vs. Innerstate – Svefn G Englar (Floating 0angels)
07 – Tonuri – Take me (Elusive Edit)
08 – Duran & Aytek – Futurehope
09 – Descent – Round Midnight
10 – Deck Slaves – 47 Ronin
11 – White

But if someone saw this set somewhere in the web – paste me a link, and you’ll bright my day!..even though it’s night now! :)

Matlab. Dilate, Erode & Open-Close functions

22 Mar

matlab_in-actionWhile playing around with basic types of grayscale and binary images in Matlab, I’ve found few nice functions to be used to perform simple morphological changes and noise clearance of an image.

If you have to use a basic morphological changes to your grayscale image, I think it’s impossible to avoid imerode() and imdilate() functions, which give the ability of (as you guessed!) erosion and dilation binary, grayscale or packed images.

Of course, to perform these changes you should use strel() function with predefined structural elements, which will be used in dilation and/or erosion functions. The links provided in the post will give a huge amount of description concerning these functions with examples of its usage.

The other function I’d like to mention are fully dependent on dilate/erode pair, since combining these two, we can provide better elimination of noise with keeping initial image morphology.

The functions imopen() and imclose() use same arguments passing through therefore you can achieve better image processing with writing simply another few lines of code.

Sometimes you will do anything, but not what you have to, because you’ve got fed up being a nice and punctual guy 24/7.

University buzz in Limassol

20 Mar

As it appeared, in few weeks, somewhere in the old city part of Limassol, the municipality plans to open a Limassol University of Technology. Great idea, especially when the main studying resorts like Intercollege and Frederick Institute are planning to achieve the status of University this year.

After studying three years in the institute, I’ll be graduating already the university: sounds good, but already some changes started to piss off:

  • Someone decided to start filtering Lab computers according to the Internet usage (they could have left at least admin logins unfiltered, damn!)
  • The rumours about increasing payment fees up to the “university” level (will be equal to 1 year MSc payment fees).
  • Free wi-fi over the whole building. (Did anyone tell where to find the installation settings, or it’s for VIP’s?!)

Well, in September, all filials of Frederick Institute should be prepared for getting the status of the university, which university, and who’ll be prepared by that time and how well – no one knows…

Mainly these lines will consist of links to Leo’s Blog, where you guys will find all needed information about Twitter and how cool it is! It gets even cooler if you don’t pay for incoming abroad sms-messages :) Otherwise, you can use IM notifications. Anyway, if you got a bit interested by the provided service – visit FAQ section of Twitter, and you’ll find all main answers for most important (global?!) questions.
